Bones Brigaders - Chin ramp. |
Lately I've been vibing on handplants. What a manoeuvre. Upside down, balancing on one hand, on the edge of a ramp or pool, gripping an inverted skateboard and that's just the halfway point! Grosso has already turned in a worthy ode to the handplant in one of his loveletters, but I also wanted to throw up a few pics here. As it was the still image of a handplant frozen in time back in the 80s that first transfixed me as I tried to work out just how on earth anybody could ride a skateboard and get into that position.
In no particular order here are... The Handplants:
Bucky Lasek - Extreme Tuck-knee - also a Knee-on. |
Tony Hawk - Tuck-knee, classic. |
Eddie Elguera - Frontside. Seems a good place to also mention Darrel Miller's Millerflip. |
Steve Caballero - Known for his iconic Frontside plant. |
Lance Mountain - Frontside plant plus. |
Neil Blender - Eggplant. With an honourable mention to Jeff Phillips 'Phillips66'. |
Ben Schroeder - Eggplant (burly!). |
Mark Gonzales - Eggplant, also known to throw a v tweaked frontsider too. |
Darren Navarette - Smithvert, invented by Mike Smith. |
Jason Jessee - Andrecht plant. Invented by Dave Andrecht. |
Tom Grohoski - Andrecht plant. Known as a demon on the lip, Tom could also get inverted. |
? - Channel plant, sometimes labelled double-grab or hip-hop. |
Lance Mountain - Sadplant, so many good pics of Lance going Sad... |
Lance Mountain - Sadplant. |
Lance Mountain - One-foot Sadplant. |
Jeff Grosso - Sadplant, always a pleasure. |
Jeff Hedges - Gymnast plant. |
Steve Schneer - Ho-ho plant. |
Alan Losi - Layback air, but it's definitely a handplant. Close relative to the Todd-twist. |
Unknown (Buck Smith maybe?) - Stelmasky plant, invented by Mike Stelmasky. |
Jeff Hedges - Smithvert out the pipe. |
Tony Hawk - invert & Andy Mac - Andrecht. |
If I've missed any, let me know and I'll add em to the list.
With thanx to the photographers - lovin your work.
DP!!
